Dear Friend,
Thank you so much for your honesty. I wanted to write you a quick letter to let you know I’ve been where you’re at. I have followed God’s directions and wound up in places that didn’t make sense. If it wasn’t on the same street as you, we were definitely in the same zip code!
Remember Joseph? He was rejected by his brothers because God spoke to him, put in jail for refusing to sin, and forgotten by those he saved.
Interesting rewards for pleasing God!
Yet God has an amazing way of “working everything according to our good.” He uses circumstances that are bad to bless. When the devil attacks us, people misunderstand us, our bodies fight against us, and friends speak poorly of us… if we draw close to His side, He will out-bless every curse, He will keep leading, and eventually, you’ll understand why you ended up where you did.
I love this verse in Isaiah 30:20:
“The Lord will give you the bread of adversity and the water of affliction, but your Teacher will no longer hide Himself— with your own eyes you will see Him. And whether you turn to the right or to the left, your ears will hear this command behind you: ‘This is the way. Walk in it.’”
Remember the early Christians martyred for their faith? We are the ones blessed by their sacrifice. Because their sacrifice validated the gospel. Their sacrifice proves to a doubter like me that the gospel is true. We can look back and know for sure that the good news was not given to profit any person financially, not accepted to elevate someone’s status, and not sustained for political gain. The gospel was so precious that it was worth more than life itself.
Joseph’s suffering put him in the exact position where he could save his brothers. Jesus’ suffering did that, too. Could yours?
Friend, in this place that doesn’t make sense… trust the heart of God. He will bless you, and He will bless the world because you follow Him. One day, it’s all going to make sense. You’ll see your Teacher, and understand why He led you as He did.
I wanted to tell you that I share honestly about my experience of following God as a missionary in India in my book, Hidden Song of the Himalayas. You can find out more here, or sign up for my reader extras library below to read the first five chapters for free.
God bless you!
